Metluma Community Edit – October 2025
4 minute readA Message from Dr Nic
Welcome to our October community update. It’s an energising time for us, especially as we gear up for World Menopause Day on 18 October. We’re living in a moment where conversations, research, and support are converging — and I’m so glad you’re here with us.
Warmly,
Dr Nic x

Event Spotlight – The Future of Care
Integrating Wearable Data with Clinical Insight
I’ve been finding the data from wearables absolutely fascinating — the connection between behaviours and symptoms is eye-opening for both myself and my patients.
Personally, I’ve noticed correlations between my HRV and time spent in nature, as well as the sweet spot of social connection — too much can be draining, but the right people at the right time are truly cup-filling.
Restorative sleep has also shown powerful impacts, with changes in HRV and noticeable shifts in sleep quality around my cycle. This is such an exciting space, and while we’ve partnered with Garmin for a range of reasons, we remain wearable-agnostic, meaning you can bring insights from any device.
From heart rate trends to sleep quality and activity levels, wearables are capturing powerful health data every day, and it’s how we connect this with clinical insight that creates real impact.
Curious to learn more? Join me in our upcoming session on Saturday, October 18th, at 12pm or Thursday, October 23rd, at 12pm, where we’ll explore how wearable data is shaping the next generation of healthcare. Look forward to seeing you there!

Insights from the Garmin Health Summit
Georgie had the honour of attending the Garmin Health Summit, where ideas met data, and vision met execution.
Highlights that stood out:
-
Arjun Athreya (Mayo Clinic): In a 12-month RCT of 184 physicians using Garmin smartwatches, adherence was >70%, with measurable improvements in burnout and resilience.
-
Mathias Basner (Penn Medicine): Tracking astronauts’ sleep using Garmins on a 5-day space flight — lessons for health here on Earth (and perhaps one day, Mars).
-
Nick Read, Stephanie Mascia & Bonginkosi Shabalala: Vitality program results showed reduced mortality risk, lower healthcare costs, and improved engagement.
These talks reaffirmed what we believe: data is powerful — but coupling it with clinical insight and empathy is where true change happens.
Serenity Collective Reflections
At the Serenity Collective sessions, I had the privilege of sitting alongside thought leaders who were willing to lean into brave conversations at work.
I delivered a Perimenopause 101, unpacking the diversity of symptoms and unique lived experiences, while also shining a light on the striking reality that many physicians receive little to no formal menopause education — within a system not yet well structured to deliver patient-centred care. The energy in the room was powerful, with genuine “ah-ha” moments and inspiration flowing from the leaders present.
We also heard from Michelle Slevin, one of Linfox’s few female executives, who shared her deeply personal journey. After multiple GP visits and EAP consultations left her feeling “broken,” Michelle found a transformative connection and healing with Dr Jo. Her story was raw, courageous, and resonated deeply across the room.
We would also love to share your transformation with the community. If you have a story to share, let me know — and you’ll go in the draw to win a Garmin.
What We’re Listening to This Month
Anyone who knows Nic knows she has a total girl crush on P!NK—not just for her powerhouse voice, but for everything she stands for: strength, creativity, raw honesty, and that fearless, straight-shooting way of cutting through the noise. She’s the kind of woman who makes you want to stand taller, speak louder, and dance harder. Her song Trustfall feels like an anthem for the collective tribe—a reminder that when women come together with courage and heart, there’s nothing we can’t rise through.
