Curiosity & Christmas

As the festive season approaches, many of us begin the familiar sprint — the decorations to hang, the gifts to buy, the children’s school breakup, the parties, the food. For some, the run into Christmas is full of joy: spending time with children, soaking up the atmosphere, laughing with family and friends. For others, it may feel challenging: the load seems heavy, financial pressure looms, old tensions with loved ones quietly surface, and we hear ourselves saying “just get to Christmas and the New Year”.

In this space let’s invite something slightly different: curiosity. As I move into Christmas I am inviting myself to be curious. What is it that underlies the stress for me? Where do I feel it in my body? What nourishes me right now — and how? What data can I gather? If I drink alcohol, what happens to my sleep? If I eat that home-made rocky road (often the highlight of the day!) how do I feel ?

Because as Bruce Lee said: “Under pressure we don’t rise to our ideal — we sink to the level of our training.” So it is curious to explore: what conditions cultivate creativity at this time? When is it required to be gentle, when is it needed to be bold?

Warmly,

Dr Nicole Avard

🎤 Upcoming AMA: Is it burnout… or could it be perimenopause?

📅 11 December 2025 | 12:30PM AEST | Live on StreamYard

My co-founder, Dr Nic Avard, will host an honest and powerful conversation featuring:

  • Julie Dillon: Former EBOS and Colgative Palmolive

  • Michelle Slevin: General Manager, Linfox

They’ll share what they wish they’d known sooner, their long journey to feeling supported, and how to recognise when “burnout” is actually hormonal.

As you head into the holiday break, we hope this AMA helps you pause and reflect on what you need for your health this summer.

Community Event

Metluma and the Orange Roadshow

What began as a small ripple became a true butterfly effect, with more than 100 women joining us at Banksia in Orange. We were thrilled to be joined by Dr Gabriella Staniforth, Ben Chiarella, and Kristy-Lee Patterson as we explored what perimenopause is, its wide-reaching impacts, and how we can strengthen community and access to compassionate, effective care.

Do you know a town that could benefit from the Metluma Roadshow?

We’d love to hear from you — reach out at hello@metluma.com

Speaking of passion, if you’re looking for a great read for yourself or a loved one, check out “It’s not you -It’s Perimenopause”—an evidence-based, easy-to-read book full of practical, can-do strategies by local pharmacist and nutritionist Sarah Gray.

Take it to the beach and exhale.

A brilliant, funny, deeply validating read for anyone navigating midlife hormones.

Need Support?

We know the final weeks of the year can feel overwhelming, with many spinning plates and increasing demands. We see it, and we feel it.

We’re here to support you.

What we are listening too - Letting Go

To complement your intention of curiosity + noticing, here’s a beautiful video by home grown Aussie Angie McMahon called “Letting Go”. In this piece she sings about releasing control, surrendering into life rather than battling it — a lovely invitation as we head into a busy season.
