The Metluma Edit from Dr Nic: Get Curious About What You’re Not Hearing

4 minute read

The truth is, most of us aren’t taught to listen to our bodies. We’re taught to push through, to override, to keep going regardless of what’s actually going on underneath.

So it’s no wonder that by the time we notice the tension, the fatigue, the stiffness – it’s already been building for a while.

This month’s AMA with Carolyn Mee and Emma van Warnrooy (more on that below) is a good example of this in action.

Hearing loss is one of those things we tend to write off, blame on “getting older,” or just quietly work around – rather than asking what it might be connected to, or what support actually looks like.

That’s the theme I keep coming back to: paying attention early, rather than waiting until something demands it.

If you’re up for it, comment on the video above, and tell me – what’s one thing your body’s been telling you lately that you’ve been putting off listening to?

Warmest,

Dr Nic, Specialised GP

🎤 Free Upcoming AMA: Hearing Loss & Midlife: What You Should Know & What to Do About It

📅 Thursday, 27th August 2026 | 12PM AEST | Live on StreamYard | FREE

Hearing rarely makes the list when we talk about peri-/menopause – but it should.

Hearing loss doesn’t only happen in later life. In this month’s AMA we’re unpacking why hearing health is quietly becoming one of the more important – and overlooked – conversations in midlife.

We’ll unpack:

  • Why hearing is coming up in peri-/menopause conversations at all, and what’s changing in the body that makes this worth paying attention to now

  • The research connecting hearing health and dementia risk

  • The red flags of hearing loss to watch for in yourself and the people you love

  • What “taking hearing action” actually looks like today

  • How accessible hearing screenings can be a simple first step for yourself, your parents, or your children

Hosted by Dr Nic Avard, with special guest:

🎧 Carolyn Mee, Founder & CEO of hearing screening platform Sound Scouts

🩺 Emma van Warnrooy, Audiologist, Pittwater Hearing

No scare tactics, no doom and gloom. Just clear, evidence-based information so you know what to look out for and what steps are worth taking, for yourself, your ageing parents, and even your kids.

👩‍⚕️ Our Annual Care Membership, your ticket to stay connected, all year long

Here at Metluma, we’ve been growing – thanks to the incredible support from women like you – and we’re expanding our medical team to meet the demand for personalised, exceptional care.

But we don’t want you to have to repeat your story to a new doctor, or feel like you don’t have a care team that truly knows you.

Our new Annual Care Membership is how we do that.

It keeps you on my books between appointments. It keeps your chat access open, so you can reach out when something changes or you need guidance. And it means that when you do need us, you’re coming back to a team that already knows your story.

No reintroductions. No retelling everything from the beginning. Just connected care, on your schedule.

Limited memberships are now available, until our books fill up.
