Happy World Menopause Day! We hope you’re celebrating the women in your life by spreading awareness this Friday 18th October.

It’s hard to believe it’s already October and we’re on the final run down to the 2024 finish line. There’s been a lot happening in the meno-sphere. The world is about to descend upon Melbourne as the International Menopause Society Congress kicks off tomorrow. And one of the biggest pieces of news was the Senate Committee inquiry recommendations being handed down in Parliament. I’ve written an opinion piece on that for Women’s Agenda, which you can read here.

We’ve been busy over the last few months ourselves with our University of Sydney research program getting off to a great start, working hard on building new functionality into the Metluma App and holding the first ever men’s round table think tank on menopause. More on that next time.

In this issue, I felt it was important to acknowledge the team and celebrate some of the great work they’ve done to be a part of the solution for women’s health inequity.

Happy reading!

METLUMA WINS GLOBAL HEALTH AWARD

We were honoured to be recognised at the fourth annual Garmin Health Awards in Prague last month. The program recognises the world’s most innovative solutions that successfully integrate Garmin wearable technology into health and wellness programs to create long-term benefits.

After presenting live to two judging panels, it was an incredible experience to be awarded the highest honour of the event – People’s Choice Award – further cementing our work in creating a new model of care that delivers for women globally.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated and passionate Metluma team. It truly takes a village to build the future of women’s health. Together, we are shaping a world where women, especially those navigating perimenopause and menopause, are empowered and supported by innovative, personalised care. 💪❤️

GEORGIE’S OPINION ON THE SENATE INQUIRY RECOMMENDATIONS

It’s been a month since the Senate Committee handed down their recommendations to Parliament and I’ve taken some time out before publishing my opinion piece on it. After spending more than 20 years in digital health, I’ve seen the good and the bad. In my opinion, menopause is one area that digital health can close so many gaps on, and fast!

So why then did the word “digital” only appear once in the Senate Committee recommendations?

METLUMA PARTNERS WITH KIINDRED ON MENOPAUSE AWARENESS

The symptoms of perimenopause can start up to 10 years before menopause (that could mean your late 30s), so as women are having their babies later in life, the intersection of raising young children, caring for ageing parents and the start of perimenopause is creating a unique phenomenon for this generation. Never before have we seen such a cross-over and it’s something we cannot ignore for the health and wellbeing of the women in our lives.

Metluma recently partnered with Kiindred.co, one of Australia’s largest parenting platforms to help increase menopause literacy and ensure women are advocating for their health when it comes to symptoms and changes they may be experiencing.

Our very own Dr Nicole Avard provides expert advice and commentary on everything from hormonal chaos to when breastfeeding and perimenopause overlap to the essential changes and symptoms every woman needs to know about.

THE AUSTRALIAN MENOPAUSE ECOSYSTEM MAP

There is no doubt there’s a whole lot of great initiatives going on at the moment when it comes to perimenopause and menopause. But have you been overwhelmed by the dearth of information on where to access what? Us to!

We’ve been working on consolidating this information which attempts to bring it all into the one place and help everyone navigate a growing and important category.

Whether you’re an individual seeking help, a corporate leader building support policies, or a healthcare provider aiming to better understand menopause—there are resources here for you, and we’re expanding every day. Together, we can turn this movement into meaningful action.

Each month we share some of the articles we’ve been clicking on.
